Paco Alcácer has scored a goal for Spain! Assist by José Gayà.
GOOOAAALLL!!! SPAIN 4-0 FAROE ISLANDS! This is a little harsh on Faroe Islands, who have simply switched off in the final stages of the contest. Alcacer gets in front of Nielsen and heads Gaya's left-sided cross into the back of the net. As simple as you like.
It may have been a simple goal but credit to Gaya for spotting the run of Alcacer at the front post.
90'
Three minutes have been added on at the end of the match.
89'
Paco Alcácer has scored a goal for Spain! Assist by Thiago Alcântara.
This was yet more good play from Thiago, who has been Spain's best player today. Even after 90 minutes he was more switched on than anyone else to set up this third goal.
GOOOOAAALLL!!! SPAIN 3-0 FAROE ISLANDS! Alcacer puts some gloss on the scoreline by adding a third for Spain. Thiago plays a quick one-two to create some space for himself in the area and picks out Alcacer on the edge of the six-yard box for a first-time finish past Nielsen.
88'
Spain are not really interested in forcing the issue, knowing the job was done the moment Rodrigo scored his second goal of the contest. The Faroe Islands have put up a brave fight today.
87'
M. Egilsson enters the game and replaces K. Olsen.
The final change of the game sees Egilsson take over from Klaemint Olsen. There are three minutes of normal time to play at Estadio El Molinon.
85'
De Gea has been handed the captain's armband following the departure of Ramos. Parejo has another go and, once again, the shot is blocked.
84'
Unai Núñez enters the game and replaces Sergio Ramos.
A third and final change for Spain now as Nunez takes over from skipper Ramos.
83'
Bartalsstovu has a chance to counter for the visitors but lacks the confidence to go it alone and the move breaks down. Up the other end, Parejo's shot is blocked inside the box.
82'
Spain have had nearly 76 per cent of the ball in the second half but, like in the first half, they have been largely frustrated by their opponents, who will consider a 2-0 loss a pretty decent outcome.
Minute
Description
80'
Nunez is about to be sent on by Moreno for the final 10 minutes. Spain are deserving winners but they have been far from convincing today against their lowly opponents. Sarabia shoots high over the bar, summing things up.
78'
SAVE! Rodri lines up the shot from 25 yards and nearly catches out Nielsen, who just about gets down to his right to keep it out with the help of a covering defender.
77'
A little over 10 minutes to go in Gijon and Spain are continuing to toil. Sarabia picks up the ball wide on the left but overhits his cross.
76'
It really should be 2-1 in Gijon, which would have set up a tense finale. As it is, Spain can continue to see out the contest in second gear as Alcacer sends a free-kick into the stands.
72'
Sergio Ramos gets yellow.
The ball pops up and hits Ramos on the arm, leading to a caution - one that he is not happy about.
71'
The ball is played all the way back to De Gea and that leads to some sarcastic cheers from the home fans - their goalkeeper has had next to nothing to do today. It has been a pretty disappointing contest, in truth, but from Spain's perspective it is job done.
70'
Rodrigo has a shot blocked in the box and Ramos is unable to get it on target from the follow-up effort. A corner is won and it is worked shot, but the cross is cut out by the first man.
68'
Pablo Sarabia enters the game and replaces Suso.
Play is being broken up by a number of subs now as Spain make their second alteration, bringing on Sarabia for Suso.
66'
K. í Bartalsstovu enters the game and replaces J. Símun Edmundsson.
Edmundsson is off and Bartalsstovu on for the Faroe Islands in their second change of the match.
64'
Alcacer threads the ball through for Gaya but he cannot tee up a team-mate. The angle was tight but Gaya will perhaps regret not taking on the shot instead there.
63'
The Faroe Islands are attacking sporadically, and when they do get the ball past the halfway line there is nothing to show for it. Without being patronising, a 2-0 away defeat to Spain is not bad going for them. Still half an hour to go, though!
61'
Paco Alcácer enters the game and replaces Mikel Oyarzabal.
Spain make their first change of the game, with Alcacer taking over from Oyarzabal up top.
60'
Ramos picks out Gaya with a sublime ball over the top and the first-time cross is nearly gobbled up by Rodrigo, only for Nielsen to get to it first.
59'
Moreno has sent a few players to warm up so it is likely that we will see a change or two when we reach the hour mark in Gijon. It is constant pressure from Spain and a third goal looks as though it will arrive shortly.
57'
Gaya breezes past his man and picks out a team-mate. The ball drops for Carvajal but his shot hits an opposition player in front of goal and goes behind for a corner. Spain are steadily building momentum.
55'
A. Eriksen enters the game and replaces R. Baldvinsson.
Eriksen replaces Baldvinsson in the first change of the contest.
52'
SAVE! Spain have played a lot better in the second half and you would fancy them to cruise over the line now. Space opens up for Hermoso to shoot but Nielsen is equal to it.
50'
Rodrigo has scored a goal for Spain! Assist by Thiago Alcântara.
Thiago is credited with the assist for now, but this may well go down as an own goal - that depends on whether Rodrigo's shot was on target.
GOOOOAAALLL!!! SPAIN 2-0 FAROE ISLANDS! Spain have injected some urgency into their game in the second half and they have doubled their tally through Rodrigo's heavily-deflected shot. He cuts onto his left foot and curls the ball goalwards, though it probably would not have gone in without the deflection.
RODRI DENIED! Parejo chests the ball down for Rodri and the midfielder's powerful shot is on target, albeit far too central. Nielsen gathers the ball at the second attempt.
49'
The Faroe Islands are not looking quite as assured at the back since the restart. Suso is invited to shoot but his curler is off target.
48'
Spain had 70 per cent of the ball in the first half and they have, as expected, continued to dominate possession early in the second period. Nielsen is left stranded when the ball is played into the centre but the visitors clear their lines.
46'
RESTART! The Faroe Islands, still in with a shot of snatching the most unlikely of points at Estadio El Molinon, get us back up and running.
45' +2
HALF-TIME: SPAIN 1-0 FAROE ISLANDS
45'
Two minutes have been added on at the end of the first half. The Faroe Islands are knocking the ball around at the back, with Spain opting to drop deep rather than push high.
44'
Thiago Alcântara gets yellow.
Thiago, probably Spain's best player in this first half, is cautioned after catching Hendriksson Olsen a little late.
43'
SCARE FOR SPAIN! This is a very well worked move from the Faroe Islands. The ball is worked to Davidsen in the middle and he is inches away from connecting with it. A Spanish player made the final touch as a corner is awarded.
42'
Moreno would like a second goal to take into half-time, and on the basis of the last five minutes that second goal will soon arrive. Thiago makes another smart run around the back but cannot quite make contact with his header.
40'
Ramos has a go from range but is a fair way off target with this latest attempt.
38'
GREAT EFFORT! Suso curls this latest free-kick into the box and it is headed on by Vatnsdal for a corner. The set-piece is well worked, the ball being cut back for Thiago 25 yards from goal. The volley is sweetly struck and Nielsen gets down to his left to tip it away.
36'
Thiago makes a smart run in behind and stays on his feet despite a slight nudge inside the box. He is unable to bring it under control and a promising attack comes to an end.
31'
SAVE! Having managed to tame Spain in the opening half an hour of the game, the Faroe Islands are growing more and more in confidence. Bjartalid gets a shot away from pretty much the visitors' first attack, though it's an easy one for De Gea to deal with.
29'
Hendriksson Olsen has committed three or four fouls now and has somehow managed to avoid a booking. This latest free-kick is launched into the box and Nielsen plucks it out of the air.
27'
Gaya has Rodrigo in his sights as he carries the ball down the left, but Nielsen commits to it and gets two hands to the ball.
26'
Faroe Islands boss Olsen will be pretty pleased with the way the last 10 minutes have gone since Spain opened the scoring. The hosts are continuing to see an awful lot of the ball, but they are not doing a great deal with it. Suso's shot is blocked by Davidsen.
24'
Replays of Rodrigo's goal suggest it may well have been offside. Had VAR been in use in the Euro 2020 qualifiers it might have been ruled out.
23'
Spain win a corner and the ball drops for Ramos to strike. He certainly knows how to find the back of the net but this is an awkward one and the volleyed attempt ends well over the crossbar.
21'
Hendriksson Olsen takes out Thiago and a free-kick is awarded 25 yards from goal. Suso has only one thing in his mind but strikes the ball against the wall.
19'
Thiago's cross is a good one but has a little too much on it for Rodrigo to meet. The Faroe Islands are playing very narrow at the back and Spain are making the most of the space in wide areas.
17'
Spain have had 81 per cent of the ball in the opening 17 minutes of the match, but they have managed just one shot on target. Will the Faroe Islands muster any sort of attack in the remaining 70 minutes or so?
15'
Having scored one, it is already a case of 'how many' from Spain's perspective. That was a fairly scrappy opener, but the hosts have played some nice football and should go on to bag a few more before full-time.
13'
Rodrigo has scored a goal for Spain! Assist by Mikel Oyarzabal.
This was unselfish play from Oyarzabal, who made the most of the support alongside him. The visitors claimed for offside but the goal stands.
GOOOAAALLL!!! SPAIN 1-0 FAROE ISLANDS! The home side make the breakthrough with 13 minutes on the clock - and it is a goal that has been coming since kick-off. Rodri prods the ball through for Oyarzabal, who has Nielsen breathing right down his throat. Rather than try to poke the ball home, he taps it to his right and Rodrigo has a simple finish into an empty net.
12'
PENALTY APPEAL! Suso causes some real panic inside the box and cuts the ball back for Parejo, whose shot is deflected into the path of Ramos. The centre-back turns the ball goalwards and it hits an opposition player. A few Spanish players appeal for handball but nothing is given.
10'
Davidsen clatters into Carvajal and Spain have a chance to cross the free-kick into the box from out on the right. Suso sends it towards a cluster of players near the penalty spot, but it is a visiting player who gets to it first.
8'
The Faroe Islands are essentially playing with four centre-backs and a six-man midfield. It will not be easy for Spain to break them down, but you would fancy them to find a way through eventually.
6'
Carvajal crosses from the right and picks out Rodrigo at the back post, but he is unable to find the target. The home team are knocking the ball around with ease.
5'
A bit of a disjointed start to the match following that early collision between Hansson and Rodri, then, but Spain are starting to find their groove. Plenty of players on the field today have a chance to impress head coach Moreno.
2'
Rodri catches Hansson and there is an early stoppage in play. Both players had their eyes on the ball and it is the Faroe Islands midfielder who has come out second best.
1'
KICK-OFF! After a minute's silence to mark the tragic passing of former Spain boss Luis Enrique's young daughter, the home side get the game under way.
Hello and welcome to our live coverage of the Euro 2020 qualifier between Spain and the Faroe Islands at Estadio El Molinon in Gijon.
Spain are top of Group F thanks to a perfect record of five wins from five, most recently earning a 2-1 victory against Romania on Thursday. Sergio Ramos scored from the penalty spot and Paco Alcacer added a second from close range, but Robert Moreno's men had to hold on a little in Bucharest as Diego Llorente was shown a straight red card after Florin Andone had pulled one back.
SPAIN (4-3-3): David de Gea; Dani Carvajal, Sergio Ramos (c), Mario Hermoso, Jose Gaya; Daniel Parejo, Rodri, Thiago Alcantara; Mikel Oyarzabal, Rodrigo Moreno, Suso.
Faroe Islands subs: Patrik Johannesen, Teitur Gestsson, Kristian Joensen, Magnus Egilsson, Kaj Leo i Bartalsstovu, Rene Joensen, Meinhard Olsen, Andreas Eriksen, Arni Frederiksberg.
Faroe Islands lost 4-1 in the reverse fixture to Spain in June and are still seeking their first point in Group F. Their losing run continued on Thursday when going down 4-0 to Sweden on home soil, making it 16 goals conceded and four scored in their five Euro 2020 qualifiers. Victory for Sweden kept them within five points of La Roja, while third-place Norway are a further two points adrift heading into the sixth round of fixtures.
The two teams are now out on the field at Estadio El Molinon and we are moments away from kick-off.
Spain take a one-goal lead into half-time thanks to Rodrigo's strike 13 minutes in after being teed up by Oyarzabal. The Faroe Islands claimed for offside but with no VAR in use the goal was allowed to stand. That aside the hosts have struggled to truly trouble Nielsen, the opposition keeper making just one other save of note to keep out the impressive Thiago's 25-yard volley. Rodrigo also headed over from a good position but a lot more is required in the second half.
The Faroe Islands clearly grew in confidence and they ended the first half pretty strongly. As long as it remains 1-0 there is the chance of a major upset in Gijon, so Moreno may well opt to make a change at the interval. Among the subs is Alcacer, who was on the scoresheet against Romania last time out.
Spain return to action on October 12 with a trip to Norway and take on second-place Sweden, who they are now seven points clear of, in Stockholm three days later. As for the Faroe Islands, they go in search of their first point when hosting Romania in a month's time.
Thanks for joining our coverage today. Until next time, goodbye!
