We're underway at San Siro.
Good afternoon and welcome to the live commentary of the Serie A clash between Milan and Sampdoria at San Siro.
Milan return to action from the winter break in the need of a response after suffering their heaviest defeat in 21 years last time out. Atalanta crushed Stefano Pioli's men 5-0 three days before Christmas, leaving the Rossoneri in the middle of the table and well off the pace of the European spots. Pioli is under pressure after the result and his team need to come out with a strong performance to prove a point and get back to winning ways.
Sampdoria are struggling at the foot of the table, winning only one of their last four matches. The club are sitting one place outside of the relegation zone - one point ahead of Brescia. Sampdoria put forward a decent outing against Juventus last time out before the winter break, falling to a 2-1 defeat to the reigning champions. A similar effort today could yield at least a point against the Rossoneri.
MILAN (4-3-3): Gianluigi Donnarumma; Davide Calabria, Mateo Musacchio, Alessio Romagnoli, Theo Hernandez; Rade Krunic, Ismael Bennacer, Giacomo Bonaventura; Suso, Krzysztof Piatek, Hakan Calhanoglu.
MILAN SUBS: Samu Castillejo, Andrea Conti, Rafael Leao, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Pepe Reina, Mattia Caldara, Lucas Paqueta, Matteo Gabbia, Franck Kessie, Antonio Donnarumma, Marco Brescianini, Daniel Maldini.
SAMPDORIA (4-3-3): Emil Audero; Bartosz Bereszynski, Julian Chabot, Omar Colley, Nicola Murru; Morten Thorsby, Ronaldo Vieira, Karol Linetty; Manolo Gabbiadini, Gaston Ramirez, Fabio Quagliarella.
SAMPDORIA SUBS: Tommaso Augello, Albin Ekdal, Federico Bonazzoli, Emiliano Rigoni, Fabio Depaoli, Jakub Jantko, Vasco Regini, Gonzalo Maroni, Jeison Murillo, Andrea Seculin, Mehdi Leris, Wladimiro Falcone.
Milan have not been good enough in the final third. Suso and Hakan Calhanoglu have not been operating at their best, failing to create opportunities for Krzysztof Piatek. There has to be more urgency from Stefano Pioli's men in the second half.
Milan are next in action against Cagliari on Saturday on the road, while Sampdoria host Brescia on Sunday in a crunch clash at the bottom.
Thanks for joining our commentary this afternoon. Until next time, goodbye.
