Hello and welcome to the live commentary of the LaLiga clash between Barcelona and Valencia.
Barcelona’s 13-game unbeaten streak in LaLiga came to an end in their previous league fixture, losing 1-0 to strugglers Almeria. Despite their recent defeat, the Catalan giants still sit at the top of the table, seven points ahead of second-placed Real Madrid. Xavi’s side will be in good spirits after a successful Copa del Rey semi-final first leg against Los Blancos. Recovering from back-to-back defeats in the Europa League and LaLiga, Barcelona narrowly beat their title rivals thanks to an own goal from Eder Militao.
Valencia's torrid run of results came to an end last time out. An away win against Real Sociedad concluded their eight-game spell without a victory, with Los Che losing seven of those matches. Sitting 18th in the table on 23 points, Valencia will move out of the drop zone with a victory. However, Barcelona have not lost in their last six home games against them in LaLiga (W4 D2), since a 1-2 defeat in April 2016.
BARCELONA (4-3-3): Marc-Andre ter Stegen; Ronald Araujo, Jules Kounde, Andreas Christensen, Alejandro Balde; Sergi Roberto, Sergio Busquets, Frenkie de Jong; Raphinha, Ferran Torres, Ansu Fati.
BARCELONA SUBS: Inaki Pena, Arnau Tenas, Marcos Alonso, Jordi Alba, Franck Kessie, Eric Garcia, Pablo Torre, Angel Alarcon, Estanis Pedrola.
VALENCIA SUBS: Iago Herrerin, Cristian Rivero, Yunus Musah, Justin Kluivert, Samu Castillejo, Mouctar Diakhaby, Fran Perez, Cristhian Mosquera, Ruben Iranzo, Javier Guerra, Mario Dominguez.
VALENCIA (4-3-3): Giorgi Mamardashvili; Thierry Correia, Eray Comert, Cenk Ozkacar, Jesus Vazquez; Dimitri Foulquier, Hugo Guillamon, Ilaix Moriba; Andre Almeida, Hugo Duro, Samuel Lino.
Raphinha has been Barcelona’s best player by some distance. A constant threat down the right wing, he keeps running straight at Vazquez who has struggled to deal with him. Strong on both feet, Valencia are finding it difficult to deal with his natural ability on the ball. As for the away side, there is no surprise that they are in the relegation zone. They’ve arguably had better opportunities than the LaLiga leaders but simply cannot get the ball on target.
That's all for today, goodbye.
Next up, Barcelona will look to secure their second successive win in LaLiga when they travel to Athletic Bilbao, with Valencia hosting Osasuna.
