Hello and welcome to the live commentary for the LaLiga clash between Cadiz and Real Madrid.
Cadiz have been in good form and have lost just one of their last six games in LaLiga. The solitary defeat came against Sevilla, with Sergio Gonzalez’s side securing three draws and two wins, one of which was a 2-0 triumph over Real Betis in their previous match. Their recent results have seen them move from 17th to 14th in the table, with the Yellow Submarine now four points clear of the relegation zone. They have avoided defeat in three of their last five matches against Madrid in LaLiga (winning one, drawing two and losing two).
Madrid’s hopes of retaining the LaLiga title are quickly starting to fade after their 3-2 loss to Villarreal in their last league outing. Defeated for the second time in three games in the completion, Los Blancos are in second place but are 13 points behind league leaders Barcelona with just 10 games remaining. However, they will have confidence going into the upcoming fixture after success in the Champions League during the week. Carlo Ancelotti’s side beat Chelsea 2-0 at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu in the first leg of their quarter-final tie, with Karim Benzema and Marco Asensio scoring.
CADIZ (4-4-2): David Gil; Raul Parra, Luis Hernandez, Fali, Alfonso Espino; Theo Bongonda, Fede San Emeterio, Ruben Alcaraz, Ruben Sobrino; Sergi Guardiola, Chris Ramos.
CADIZ SUBS: Victor Aznar, Momo Mbaye, Jose Mari, Alex Fernandez, Anthony Lozano, Ivan Alejo, Roger, Alvaro Negredo, Santiago Arzamendia, Jorge Mere, Victor Chust.
REAL MADRID (4-3-3): Thibaut Courtois; Lucas Vazquez, Eder Militao, Antonio Rudiger, Nacho; Federico Valverde, Aurelien Tchouameni, Dani Ceballos; Marco Asensio, Karim Benzema, Rodrygo.
REAL MADRID SUBS: Andrii Lunin, Luis Lopez, Dani Carvajal, David Alaba, Jesus Vallejo, Eden Hazard, Luka Modric, Eduardo Camavinga, Alvaro Odriozola, Mariano Diaz.
Cadiz have not conceded, but most of that has been down to Gil's goalkeeping excellence rather than a solid defensive display. Rodrygo keeps causing them problems with his close control dribbling and the passing play between Benzema and the Madrid wingers have made them look very poor at times. They must be more aware of Los Blancos' patterns as they keep getting beaten by the same movements. As for Madrid, they just need to be patient and keep doing what they are doing. They have created enough opportunities to score three or four and will find the opener if the game continues in the same way.
Cadiz are still in a good position in the relegation battle, sitting four points above the drop zone with nine games remaining. They will look to recover from today’s defeat when they travel to 19th-placed Espanyol. As for Madrid, they strengthened their grip on second place and are now five points ahead of Atletico Madrid. Next up, they travel to Chelsea for the second leg of their Champions League quater-final.
